git — it’s when you don’t know what you don’t know

When I first ran across subversion, I was coming to it from years of cvs use, and thus, my reaction was basically “Oh, my god, this is great. Someone took cvs and made it so much better and easier to use. Thank you subversion devs, thank you.”
Now I’m trying out git. And my reaction is a bit more along the lines of “Um, what the f&*( are you talking about?” I get the idea, in principal, of a dvcs, but trying to get my head around the basic concepts of git is going to take a bit of doing, I think. Which everyone has said is the case. And which is now proving true for me.
Must… get… basic… concepts…
