The Erlang Shell Is Wigging Me Out

I run an erlang shell inside of Emacs, and I launch my tests from inside that shell (which makes the switch from editing code to running the tests about two small muscle movements, the way God meant it to be). But then, as I keep editing the code, the Erlang shell buffer will, all of a sudden… scroll up a line, as if I’d hit return in it. A bit like its possessed.
I’m guessing this is because some inner process launched by my tests has exited, and somehow sends a newline to the controlling process, but whatever is happening, it weirds me out ;-).
